whats needed for a machine vision camera to conduct license plate recognition?
It's not every day that something moves out of a niche and enters
the mainstream traffic market,
yet that’s exactly what machine
vision cameras have done. And
the best thing, writes Louise
Smyth in her Machine Vision Analysis, is that this might only be
the start of things to come.

Adimec offers custom coating options and cover glass removal service to enhance accuracy of off the shelf image sensors
“We realize that just about every camera application has some specific requirements that cannot be addressed with a universal solution. In fact, the majority of the cameras we provide are customized to some extent, whether it’s the form factor, the interfaces, or the image sensor,” said Joost van Kuijk VP Marketing & Technology at Adimec. “There is strong demand in high-end systems for approaches that enhance the accuracy of the images, and these two services that we are offering can have a significant impact on how well the sensors capture the desired image.”

How many cameras does a system need?
Multiple-camera vision systems can contain anywhere from three cameras for simple applications, such as pick-and-place component inspection, to as many as 20 cameras for applications that require complex algorithms for defect detection, such as wafer inspection and metrology. How many cameras and what mix of high-end and lower-end models you need depends on how you will use them, said Joost van Kuijk, VP of marketing and technology for Adimec.

VISION 2011 to include focus on new interface standards for machine vision
The increasingly more efficient image sensors in digital cameras call for even faster data transmission methods. To date, Camera Link has been the ideal solution in many cases for high-speed applications. However, this no longer appears to be sufficient. New standardization attempts such as CoaXPress and Camera Link HS have been initiated. Version 2.0 of the GigE Vision Standard is due to be adopted in the third quarter of this year. Another interesting area for the machine vision industry is the extended USB 3.0 interface, which is currently making inroads into the consumer sector.
