With the impending release of the CoaXPress (CXP) 2.0 standard, a lot of people are buying CXP 2.0 Frame grabbers even though there are not a lot of CXP 2.0 cameras yet. It makes sense to buy the new technology since it is also backward compatible. A minor problem is that you need a hybrid cable since the boards use the High-Density BNC connector and the cameras generally use the DIN 1.2/2.3 connectors. So where do you get these hybrid cables? That is the subject of this week’s blog.
If you haven’t heard the CXP 2.0 standard allows cameras and interfaces to operate at 12.5 Gb/sec, double that of the 1.1 standard. That makes the new frame grabbers very attractive. We know that many of you are buying them because we get a couple of calls a week from people asking about hybrid cables. The answer is pretty straight forward. The cable companies that supplied CXP cables in the past can supply the hybrid cables and will supply CXP 2.0 cables.
Components Express is supplying these cables though their configurator doesn’t show it yet – that is in the works and the Male HD-BNC connector will be type 8 and the female bulkhead version will be type 9. Currently you must call them or a distributor like Saber 1 to get these.
There is also Hewtech that is in Japan but has offices all over. They also are making and shipping the hybrid cables and again you must call them to arrange the connector types for each end and the length and type for the cable itself. They are also working on a new configurator page and remember that Google has a translate feature if you don’t happen to read Japanese.
