How to make sure the camera you buy is CoaXPress compliant

With the increased adoption of CoaXPress by inspection and metrology system designers, there are many new CoaXPress cables, frame grabbers, and cameras coming to the market. To make sure that all of the components work seamlessly together, there is a detailed procedure outlined by JIIA for official certification. This involves thorough testing for compliance to ensure full operability with all other certified products.

When upgrading to a new interface there are always risks. You want to be able to focus on advancing your measurement capabilities without interfacing hassles. JIIA’s registration and testing procedures ensure the smoothest integration possible, but users should be careful that this process has been followed completely.

Manufacturers can register products with JIIA which gives them the license to use the CoaXPress logo under certain conditions. The applicant is then licensed to use the logo on the registered product for 12 months, however, have an obligation to pass all of the required test within these 12 months.

So just because the manufacturer is using the logo, you will want to verify the products are actually compliant.

Qualified products have to be tested for interoperability at a PlugFest and then pass an electronic compliance test.

JIIA organizes PlugFests which are a series of vendor-neutral events not only to provide interoperability tests and to promote the improvement of compliant products and the standard uniformity. Every electrical compliance test has to be conducted in accordance with the test method accredited by JIIA.

JIIA accredits test methods. The test method accredited at present is MOT which Agilent Technology Japan offers in Japan.

After the electrical compliance test, products go through an interoperability test. The products, which host and/or device manufacturers prepare, are tested for connectivity with each other in accordance with the testing list. An observer confirms every test result and judges whether the product is compliant with the standard.

After that, there is an interoperability compliance test specification to verify. GenICam compliancy of CoaXPress is confirmed and a technical supervisor of JIIA is present as a witness.

This is all done to reduce the risks that allow system builders to make the leaps required in greater resolutions and speeds.
