AIP 2.0 ADVANCED IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE

The Advanced Image Processing module is an image enhancement module focussed to improve DRI for Longe Range Imaging beyond 4 km. With the AIP 2.0 module, an observer can look at an image over longer periods of time and boost the image performance which enhances situational awareness. This allows for less false positives and more accurate identification and tracking.

 

The module is designed for operational use in environmentally challenged systems with focus on small size, low weight, low power and low latency. The 3G-SDI interface ensures easy integration with widely available displays, grabbers, DVR’s, and 3G-SDI cameras. At full resolution of 1920 x 1080, the AIP 2.0 module can maintain a maximum frame rate of 60 fps with minimal impact on Glass to Glass delay. For implementation into other systems, Adimec offers a boardlevel variant to further reduce the size and weight.

AIP 2.0 ADVANCED IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE TO MITIGATE ATMOSPHERIC TURBULENCE

When conducting long-range imaging beyond 4km, heat and unsteady air movement (e.g. turbulence) in the atmosphere will affect the image, causing distortion and degradation.  The degradations are caused by random fluctuations in the refraction index following the optical path where mixing of hot and cold air is present.  This is a common atmospheric occurrence which makes it not only very difficult to capture a clean image, but also exhausting to the observer viewing a scene for a length of time.

 

Turbulence mitigation enhances these images by stabilizing the image and averaging multiple images to reduce atmospheric distortion. This makes for a more comfortable viewing experience. The functionality sharpens the images and performance noise reduction to regain detail while performing a motion estimation to discriminate objects from turbulence moving in the scene. The result is greater image detail while maintaining movement of small objects.

 

Adimec’s Advanced Image Processing Module, AIP 2.0 is a VITA 75 compatible module designed for operational use in environmentally challenged systems with focus on small size, light weight, low power, and low latency. For implementation into other systems Adimec also offers a boardlevel variant to further reduce the size and weight.

 

The 3G-SDI interface ensures easy integration with widely available displays, DVR’s, and 3G-SDI frame grabbers. At full resolution of 1920 x 1080, the AIP 2.0 module can maintain a maximum frame rate of 60 fps with less than 2 frames latency ensuring a minimal impact on Glass-to-Glass delay.  The module is equipped with a passive 3G-SDI failsafe loop through.
